Part 2
If you are sincerely uncertain about what God wants you to do – and are not deliberately refusing to do His will – this is what you need to do to find that elusive mind of God: 1) clear out of your mind all thoughts about the “great work” you want to do; 2) yield to God’s will as fully as you can; 3) pray earnestly for wisdom and guidance; and 4) do whatever good your hands find to do and, voila! – you will find yourself turning into the path God has had in mind for you all along. This may not happen overnight, but if you are sincere and don’t pay attention to the doubts that your carnal nature and the adversary bring to mind, God will be compelled to put you on the right track. That is what a God does.
As we stated above, so many times God will lead His trusting child by the convergence of circumstances. In some instances these circumstances or “chance happenings” will block all ways that lay before the believer but one. If he has been praying in faith and not merely uttering words, he can take that one pathway, confident it is the will of God for him.
But when seeking the will of God for your life or for one particular instance in your life, you have to “hang loose”; that is, you should not close your mind to however and in whatever way God may choose to lead you. Again I caution you not to seek for so-called greatness. The vast majority of believers are not known worldwide, theirs is not a ministry of great acclaim whether by the world or by their own brothers and sisters around the globe. Their little-known work may indeed have worldwide effects, but they will not get much human acclaim. These humble, praying persons will, by their prayers raised in faith, touch lives of people they have never known and who have never been aware of them.
But that does not matter in the least. What is our avowed goal here on earth? Is it not to do the full will of God and to reach out and touch those who are in need? It should be of little concern to one who is committed to these two goals, that he is not praised by men and women.. The same people who praise you today can curse you tomorrow. And, if you belong to God, they can add nothing of any worth to your life. The praise that they lavish on you is always suspect; there is always a lurking proviso in it; it does not come without a “catch” in it somewhere.
The wise course is to seek only to please God. Curry His favor and be His yes-man. If we worked as hard to please God as we do to gain the attention of men, the Church would be a mighty organism, impacting many more lives, bringing much more glory to God and saving more souls from hell.
Seek the fulfillment of the will of God as diligently as you would search for great treasure. No other treasure can bring you such power and glory and contentment – right here in this life and, in the life to come, eternal life that is wondrous and beyond compare..
This is the end of Chosen by God.

Dear Brother Smith (or Dad, as you prefer it),
I thought this article was very insightful, as usual. It is easy to let our egos guide us in directions that aren't in God's plan for us. Conversely, we can get derailed from our mission by allowing fear to keep us from pursuing Gods' will for us.
I really like what you had to say about how through prayer God's will reveals itself by foreclosing other options but the one He has designed for us. leaving that path. Often I get hung-up on the notion of God's will coming down from on high as some bolt from the blue, then getting frustrated when that doesn't happen. But it is amazing how subtle God's will can actually be in the ways it's manifested.
Thank you for your this re-revelation.
