God Simply Demanded Too Much.
He wanted to take away your fun and sex and games. That would have made your life drab, monotonous and unbearable, you thought. So now God is demanding nothing and He is not taking anything away from you. You simply have no means of enjoying the fun and sex and games: You have no body to participate in any of those short-lived joys of a life that is forever gone. Nor is there anyone to be involved with in your sinful binge – IF you could binge. NOW life should really be an unending pleasure — except now you know that the unconscious sense of the presence of God was all that kept you from going mad.
It is true, God has ceased asking you to give up all your sinful joys. He is at last demanding nothing – and He is giving nothing in return: There is no love, no grace, no sense of being wanted... no God to harass you.
You have never known existence without the unconscious sense of the presence of God. That sense of which you were unaware was bestowed on you only by the grace of God. While you were rejecting its calls to salvation, it was all around you and a world full of sinners, keeping you all from taking a swift and early plunge into damnation.
You wanted to be left alone. You didn’t like those persistent pleas God made for you to come to Him; giving up your pleasures was too much to ask. So God finally gave you what you wanted. Now He wants absolutely nothing from you. He has left you alone – in your sins and unceasing torment.
In fact, to Him you forever no longer exist.
