A Reminder of Why I Write ‘My Unusual Journal’
Now and then I feel the urge to explain again to you my readers what this My Unusual Journal is all about. This journal seldom logs what I am doing day by day as most journals do. It brings to you my feelings and aspirations, hoping that they will inspire you as I have been inspired and shake you awake as the Lord has often done to me, directly or by a brother or sister believer. In addition I will now and then give you a glimpse of how God deals with me as a person who is not your usual lump of clay – and that is not necessarily good! – in the hope that some of you who are really plagued by their idiosyncrasies or minor personal abnormalities will find in me a comfortable partner in your departure from the norm.
I am more and more motivated by item #1 below although I am very much aware of item #3 as I write. Item #2 is in a special class that need not concern you unless you are the person to whom I am referring. God bless this young man and shake him awake to his responsibilities in Christ. Now here are my reasons for writing this so-called journal:
- I wish to leave this series of My Unusual Journal posts for my children to look at occasionally after my demise. They are not now regular readers – and I am not offended. I realize I don’t use the popular social media vernacular. I do not know how to do that and, frankly, I have no desire to alter now the style I have tried diligently to achieve, and on which I am still working.
- I must admit there are some social media writers who have a certain flair for putting their grammatically challenged words together and causing me to enjoy reading them – until the writer unfortunately lapses into the foul-mouthed language of the genre. Such lapses are to me entirely unnecessary for his or her breed of writer. They are good in their field without the crude language, so why lower their standards? I hope I am hitting a home run here with one certain young writer, but the chances are he will never read this.
- I am presently posting these mini-messages for the benefit of any who will read them and perhaps be encouraged, edified or comforted by what they say. My postings at this point are turning out to be a spiritual smorgasbord containing various free-wheeling thoughts on God and some mini-treatises that I present in a slightly more formal manner. Overall it is an informal study of God and His relationships with His people. We are looking at 1) who and what God is; 2) how should we come before Him in worship; 3) do we even dare to come before Him, intruding into that august Presence; and 4) the mysterious, complex matter of our salvation, which is at once very convoluted in its labyrinthine details, but simple in its application to the human life.
I have to hastily add that My Unusual Journal cannot make any claims to being an in-depth theological study. That would be absurd. It is a simple work written by a simple author dedicated to passing on to his biological descendants, bit by bit, what he has been taught by others, especially his own father, and what God has seen fit to give to him (the author). And of course I affectionately include in my readership those few persons who for some reason like to read what I have to say as God inspires me.
There are no great revelations here, no claims to having obtained from God what other more spiritually enlightened and better skilled writers have already obtained. These Unusual Journal entries are not even a ripple on the face of the sea of the knowledge of God. Nevertheless I believe I should pass on to my descendants the little I know of the Savior, hoping they will become true men and women of God in their own right.
